Description

In Malawi living conditions are harsh, almost 90% of the population lives on subsistence agriculture. There are no infrastructures that channel the water of the great lake of the country, the farmers depend on rainwater, which makes them extremely vulnerable.

But the water problem has a solution. More than 20% of the country's territory is covered by fresh water. What is needed are wells to prevent the population from collecting water for their daily intake in exposed places (rivers, lakes or ponds), which are a source of diseases. Poor water quality has a direct impact on the health of the population and their nutritional status.

In addition, the existence of a nearby well prevents women and children, and especially girls, from taking long trips to collect water. This will facilitate the continuity in schooling of girls in rural areas, who are responsible for collecting and transporting water from the points of supply to their homes and thanks to these wells will be able to significantly reduce the time employed in this task.

Project objectives

Contribute to the development of rural communities in Malawi by providing infrastructures that improve health, nutrition and the educational quality of the poorest children of Malawi.
