Uvinum against child malnutrition

Yamuna 04

yamuna-781The NGO Yamuna works with the objective of improving the living conditions and the future expectations of the marginal children population. In Madagascar, the NGO’s Mandrosoa Educational Center welcomes children who live in very precarious situations and can’t count on the support of their family. In the center they also offer a dining service to guarantee that children have, at least, one meal a day and fight against child malnutrition in the country.

355After raising the amount needed to operate 40 children in India and reduce new leprosy cases (you can remember HERE), Uvinum users will now help the NGO Yamuna to make it possible to distribute new daily menus and ensure adequate nutrition and combat child malnutrition.

Through their help, 50 children in Madagascar  will be guaranteed one meal a day at school.

Remember that you can check the actual campaign status at any time HERE.

banner-imgIn childhood, the problem can lead to educational problems, and is that one out of three cases of school failure is due to vision problems. For this reason, one of the main initiatives that Sonrisas de Bombay carries out is a program related to health prevention for children in Bombay.

“No child with leprosy”

lepra_fontilles

Uvinum starts new project!

India is the country most affected by leprosy with 60% of global cases. It is estimated that in the country there are more than two million people with disabilities due to leprosy. Moreover, 9 out of every 100 new cases of leprosy detected are boys and girls. And this figure is increasing, which indicates that the transmission is still active and occurs at younger ages.

logo_fontillesLuckily, there are organizations, such as Fontilles, a non-governmental association, who fights and work to physical rehabilitation of children and young people affected by leprosy and improve their life conditions.

After finalization its last social project, Uvinum users have now the opportunity collaborate with them. Their aim is to fund the surgical material and medicines necessaries in order to 40 kids can be treated with orthopedic surgery. They will achieve it thanks to the extra euros that customers of Uvinum will donate. Once again, thank you!

No child without food this Christmas

capcelera_aldeas

Nicequest users are more solidarity than ever before! After Matthew Hurricane, which struck the Caribbean cost last October, we launched an emergency campaign to help the victims and, trough their collaboration, they have raised €8.000 that will help Oxfam Intermon to send hygienic kits to more than 600 families. Thank you very much! You can remember the project HERE.

logo3Their next challenge will be provide a decent meal per day to 800 children in Bolivia thought SOS Children’s Village during Christmas time. It is an important dare because every day, in every Latin America country, thousands of children lose the care of their families. They have nowhere to find the protection care and support they need for their healthy development, such as access to a healthy and nutritious diet.

In this context, SOS Children’s Villages works in order to guarantee one of the fundamental rights in the life of a child: food, essential for their growth and development.  And now, our friends from Nicequest have the opportunity to collaborate with it too.

Overcoming child malnutrition in Ethiopia

ningun_nino_sin_comida-1

Obra Social la Caixa and the Food Banks have finished “No child without a milk moustache” campaign to bring milk to all households, especially those who have special needs.

Promofarma has been one of the companies who have made it possible. Thanks to its efforts, 76 kids who are at risk of exclusion and their families will have access to milk, and cover their daily needs – of calcium, vitamins, protein and phosphorus.

Now, #Ningún niño sin comida (“#no child without food) is the new challenge for Promofarma users and it’s aimed to help refugees kids in Ethiopia, the African country that more refugees receive, to be well nourished.

Did you know that rates of underweight in children under 5 years throughout the country are at 28% and severe malnutrition rates exceed 44% for children of that age?

The campaign, impulsed by UNHCR (The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), wants to improve the nutritional status of 11.323 Sudanese-Southsudanese refugee children under 5 years and residents in 4 refugee camps of Ethiopia, and stabilize its morbidity index.

With 4.000 €, 720 infants younger than 6 months will be treated against chronic malnutrition with the distribution of nutritional milk in therapeutic feeding centers located in refugee camps.

If you want to know how the project proceed, you can do it in this LINK.

Omar, the Syrian child that smiles again

Today we are going to explain a story about Omar, a Syrian child of 8 years old that has a body like a 5 years child that, thanks to all the people that have made a donation to UNHCR to help Syrian refugees, smiles again.

Over 2 years ago, while Omar was playing with his sisters in the street a rocket reached their home in Syria. From there and from the moment in which someone killed his uncle, Omar and his family fled to Lebanon searching a better life.

omar vuelve a sonreir

As we have said before, Omar is 8 years old but his body is like a body of a child of 5 years. That’s because he was born with a rare growth-hormone deficiency that causes him different disorders in his physical development. In Syria, Omar received a treatment for grow but since he is living in Lebanon his family haven’t been able to afford the treatment.

Omar can’t grow without continuous hormone and vitamin treatment, but his parents try to give him healthy food to help him. According to them, Omar needs a treatment of 4 or 5 years to reach puberty.

Before this situation, at the end of June, UNHCR suggested that his case was studied to carry him and his family to a European country where Omar could have access to the treatment he needs and he could fulfill his dream: “be as high as the ceiling”.

Today we are glad to announce that thanks to all the people that have made a donation to the projects for refugees or have made a direct donation to UNHCR, Omar smiles again because he will be able to travel to Finland to continue with his treatment.

“My family and I will be leaving, so I get treatment” –Omar says.

For parents of Omar, this lack of treatment is what most affects them, it killed and destroyed them. It sets them back years and lose all the things they had gotten.

familia de omar

“And you know how children hit me now? First, I will grow up. Second, when I am big, I will defend myself” – Omar explains to UNHCR people.

UNHCR has explained all the story of Omar and his family in two videos. You can see the videos in the following links:

With examples like Omar, you can see that the impact of your donations is awesome. For this reason, we encourage you to continue making your donations every time you make a purchase online as there are many people who still need your help to improve their situation.
