Planeta Huerto collaborates to provide drinking water in Tanzania

Ongawa1

Did you know that 65% of the population of Tanzania lives in poverty? The lack of access to clean water causes serious health problems, especially in rural areas, and is one of the main direct causes of childhood mortality.

planeta huertoIn line with its commitment to the environment and those social causes that need it most, the customers of Planeta Huerto have started a new challenge in order to raise the amount necessary to build three water wells that will provide access to drinking water for the population of the community of Kizerui, about 1,200 people

logo_ongawaFor this, they count on the job that Ongawa develops, an NGO whose mission is to put technology at the service of human development to build a more just and supportive society.

ONGAWA works so that rural areas of southern countries have access to water and sanitation, guaranteeing their sustainability through the strengthening of the capacities of public and community organizations.

All the funds collected will go entirely to this organization so that they can guarantee the access to water in these communities.

IMG-20170420-WA0015 - copiaSome days ago we received an e-mail from Miquel and Mireia, a young couple who in a few days were going to start a long journey that would take them around the world. They had heard about us and they asked us if they could participate in some of the projects we help to fund in some of the different countries they would visit in the next weeks.

When we talked them about our Worldcoo Ambassadors Program and proposed them to join it, they accepted instantly.

Mireia studied ADE and Market Research and lives in Barcelona; Miquel is from Palma, but he has been living in Barcelona since he came here to study Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering.

Both have in common a strong social commitment, they love traveling and knowing new ways of living. Mireia, for example, has collaborated on numerous occasions as a volunteer in different groups; Miquel has been involved with the Center for Development Cooperation of the UPC.

Today at this time, surely they will be in Thailand, their first stop of this long adventure that lie ahead.

During their trip, they will travel in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia …), Oceania and South America (Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru …). Along the way, they will visit several of the social projects that our ecommerce with cause have helped to finance, will help us to know closely the reality of the region and to know the present and future needs.

If you want to follow in his footsteps, stay tuned because their adventure has just begun!

New project

Nicequest users have finished their last project! Thanks of them, UNHCR will be able to give access to a home for 100 refugee people in Iraq. You can remember the project HERE.

In the next social challenge, they will collaborate with Vicente Ferrer Foundation in order to improve the situation of widowed or abandoned women in rural Andhra Pradesh who suffer from gender-based violence and discrimination, facilitating their inclusion, integration and empowerment.

India is a country where gender violence is deeply present in all stages of women’s lived. Forced marriages, infanticide, deceit, rape, sexual harassment, prostitution, dowry or physical and verbal violence are some of the problems women must have to face, among others.

Thanks to the solidarity of Nicequest users, 27 widowed or abandoned women from Anantapur will receive a nutritional package (rice, wheat, legumes, millet and oil) for a year.

Moreover, they will be provided with support and help to deal with the violence and / or discrimination they suffer, offering them support and counseling and mediating to find suitable solutions.

Uvinum starts new project!

India is the country most affected by leprosy with 60% of global cases. It is estimated that in the country there are more than two million people with disabilities due to leprosy. Moreover, 9 out of every 100 new cases of leprosy detected are boys and girls. And this figure is increasing, which indicates that the transmission is still active and occurs at younger ages.

logo_fontillesLuckily, there are organizations, such as Fontilles, a non-governmental association, who fights and work to physical rehabilitation of children and young people affected by leprosy and improve their life conditions.

After finalization its last social project, Uvinum users have now the opportunity collaborate with them. Their aim is to fund the surgical material and medicines necessaries in order to 40 kids can be treated with orthopedic surgery. They will achieve it thanks to the extra euros that customers of Uvinum will donate. Once again, thank you!

Therapeutic diet to combat severe malnutrition

According to UNHCR data, in the last year almost 60 million people have been displaced by force, 20 million of them are refugees and over half are children. The majority of these displaced people are found on the African continent due to armed conflicts and poverty.

In Africa, these two factors- wars and poverty- are present on a terrifying scale. It is rare to find a country that has not had strong social, political or ethnic tensions. Unfortunately, this fact means these people are forced to choose between staying and dying, or running away, knowing that they face risks such as detention, torture and forced recruitment. Unfortunately, this fact means these people are forced to choose between staying and dying, or running away, knowing that they face risks such as detention, torture and forced recruitment.

Some of the problems that affect refugees are undernutrition and food insecurity. About a third of deaths in children are believed to be due to undernutrition, and more than 12.340 children die of hunger every day.

With the “Hungry for help” project, ACNUR aims to both increase food rations of refugee families and to identify and treat malnutrition in children under 5 by preforming medical examinations and providing therapeutic feeding to babies and children.

hungry for help

Thanks to help from mequedouno users, we have successfully raised 3.600€ that will help 66 babies and children to receive a month of a therapeutic diet that will help them to combat severe malnutrition. With this, we will help to avoid several malnutrition and food insecurity consequences such as the risk of higher rates of disease and infant mortality, the higher likelihood of suffering physical and / or mental illness, increased dropout rates especially among girls and many other consequences.

Thanks mequedouno for being an ecommerce with cause, and thanks to their users for helping babies and children to combat severe malnutrion.

With this project, we have 30 funded projects!
