Veterinary assistance for animals of homeless people

altarriba_capcelera

Did you know that it is estimated that between 5-10% of homeless people have a pet that provides them with deep emotional support?

Animals do not judge, they do not discriminate, they provide a sense of self-esteem and they offer unconditional loyalty. In fact, according to various studies carried out on homeless people, animals foster a sense of responsibility and they reward with affection the fulfilment of this responsibility. In addition, by acting as silent witnesses, they can steer their owners away from risky behaviours, thus allowing the construction of a positive moral identity. Moreover, homeless people who share their lives with pets are less likely to be depressed and are less likely to exhibit potentially harmful behaviours, such as drug use.

logo-fundacion-altarriba-292Homeless people cannot afford veterinary assistance for their pets so, in this context, Fundación Altarriba wants to provide solutions to this problem and pay for veterinary expenses of these animals.

As you know, the community of Mascoteros has been collaborating with us in the financing of different social projects related to animal cause. From its beginning they have collaborated with Fundación Daina and Amigos del Perro to facilitate a home for abandoned dogs.

They have the opportunity now to collaborate with Fundación Altarriba to facilitate homeless people with pets have access to veterinary services.

With their help, 100 pets of homeless people will have access to veterinary assistance.

capcelera_promofarma

Play is vital to children’s development, but what happens when a child is hospitalized? Overnight they are subjected to long and traumatic treatments, and also confined in a room.

logo-aladinaThe Aladina Foundation has been working for 11 years to support children with cancer. For this Christmas, the entity has organized some workshops, visits and parties designed exclusively so that hospitalized children can escape from their routine at the hospital and enjoy a full Christmas of activities and fun.

LogoPromoFarma-OKAfter collecting the necessary amount to make that RECOVER Foundation can improve the health of 100 women and kids in Cameroon (you can remember the project HERE), the customers of Promofarma have the opportunity to collaborate with Aladina Foundation now.

The objective is to facilitate an escape route from the hospital routine, allowing children to escape, share games with other kids and learn.

#NewProject

As you many know, the users of MeQuedoUno have been collecting with the purpose that this year 2017 children with rare disease could also have access to a quality education.

We met the story of César and with him, the community of MeQuedoUno started a donation campaign in order to achieve the challenge established: that 25 children with rare diseases could be benefited from the FEDER Educational Assistance Service.  You can remember the project HERE.

In line with its social commitment, the challenge that MeQuedoUno begins today is to raise funds to fund a training grant that will allow that resident doctors could be able to continue their studies and researches needed to combat childhood cancer.

Aladina_MDSIMA20141015_0096_35They will do it together with Aladina Foundation, an organization that every year attends more than 1.500 kids and their families in the 12 different hospitals which they collaborate with. Through its various projects, Aladina provides integrated support to children, adolescents and families.

CRIS - Antonio Perez Maria
 “An investment for the life”
In Spain, every year, 1.400 new cases of cancer are diagnosed in children.

logo_CRIS

In front of this frightening figure, there are entities, such as Fundación CRIS Cáncer, which promote and finance research and innovation projects for the treatment and cure of the disease.

This is the case of “Project Gabi”. Gabi was a 13-year-old girl who, after undergoing several standard treatments, couldn’t eradicate her disease. Their parents decided to trust Dr. Antonio Pérez in order to start a new treatment, new in Spain, which consists of transferring to patients large amounts of Natural Killer (NK) cells and memory T cells, which are cells of the immune system specialized in destroying dangerous cells, such as tumor cells. Thanks to this new treatment, Gabi could live two more years.

Since then, the Hospital de la Paz, in Madrid, began to investigate in this type of cellular therapies that can be a very important step for the cure of this disease.

PcComponentes has joined this cause in order to CRIS Cancer could carry out this new clinical trial and enable such treatment to other patients that today have no cure. It is, as Gabi’s mother says, “an investment for the life”.

Through the amount raised, CRIS Cancer will be able to  treat children with leukemia and other solid childhood tumors that don’t respond to conventional or relapsing treatments. Although it is at a very early stage, clinical trials like this raise expectations about the prevention and cure of this disease are very high, but for this, economic investments are needed.

The project will be carried out at the Hospital de la Paz in Madrid, in collaboration with other hospitals and research centers.

Promofarma starts new project!

capaces 4 - copia

Once again, Promofarma users, one of the e-commerce with cause who work with us, have showed their solidarity. Through their collaboration with the campaign “One plus one, it is much more” promoted by Unicef, more than 7.000 kids will have access to clean water during one month. You can remember this project HERE.

The well-known Theodora Foundation is the next entity with which now the community of Promofarma can begin to collaborate. As you know, through the visits of Giggle Doctors, Theodora Foundation humanizes the stay in the hospital and helps to alleviate the suffering of all hospitalized children. Nonetheless, on this occasion, the euros collected will go to the “Able to Smile” project, an initiative that we haven’t talked about yet and which seeks to promote the autonomy and development of children with intellectual diversity through sensory stimulation.

A child with functional diversity responds very differently to stimuli; for example, some unexpected things can make them laugh, like a cry or a sneeze. Through the provocation of this laugh,Giggle Doctors acts by favouring their sensory and physical response, motivating the oxygenation of the cellular tissues and improving the immune system response.

Thanks to their collaboration, Giggle Doctors will be able to visit 35 children with intellectual disability, thus enhancing their sensorial and physical development.

¡Today is #GivingTuesday! A global day of giving

cabecera

To celebrate it, all Worldcoo’s employees have spent the morning with Assís Foundation.

Today is a special day. This morning, we haven’t worked in the offices. For the first time, we have dedicated part of our workday to help those who need the most directly and personally, without a computer screen in front of us.

During more than four hours, we have collaborated with Assis Foundation in the cleaning, adaptation and maintenance of a space for gardening workshop organized by the entity in order to facilitate the access to the working market for homeless people.

_mg_7162

In collaboration with 15 more users from the centre, we have collaborated so that the entity can develop the “Workshop of gardening, urban orchards and composting”; A training course that is part of the “Assis Verd” project and which acts as a motivational and training tool for the socio-labor insertion of people at risk of vulnerability.

This has been our way of celebrating #GivingTuesday, an international movement that was born as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season. #GivingTuesday is a day dedicated to donate, share, help and act.

Collaborate and help Assís Foundation has allowed us to know firsthand one of the causes we work for 365 days a year, which is to help eradicate poverty. In addition, it has helped us to value the work of local organizations in our immediate environment.

Worldcoo’s employees join Giving Tuesday

Next November 29, Worldcoo’s employees will join to the celebration of #Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to help others through the gift of our time, donations, goods or voice.

We join this movement in Spain last year, we help to fund more than 400.000 euros for 260 causes. This year, again, we want to overcome this number through the participation of all our ecommerce partners, but also with all of us. For this reason, all the Worldcoo’s employees will dedicate part of our workday to collaborate with ASSÍS Centre d’Acollida, an organization that wants to improve life quality of homeless.

descargaEvery day, they help more than 150 people through their basic services (breakfasts, clothes and showers). But they also implement different kind of initiatives aimed to sensitize, take care of health and hygiene and help to find a job with different educational courses.  One of them is the gardening workshop that they organize to motivate and help people without home and risk of social exclusion to find a job.

In concrete, we will help them in cleaning, adequacy and maintenance the area where they do this workshop in order to facilitate the realization of this service.

huerto

We will do it during next November 29, a global day of giving fuelled by the power of social media and collaboration. (Learn more about it HERE).

So that’s why we encourage you to join this cause and share it through your social networks with the hashtag #GivingTuesday. Through next days, we will tell you all the other initiatives that we will implement with all our e-commerce partners, so stay tuned! 😉
