Social commitment – Why is it also important in employer branding?

We live in an increasingly globalised, and at the same time, competitive world. In the world of business, it is not enough to simply just seduce the client; you must bear in mind everyone who has an interest in the business to achieve the best results. The team, of course, is one of the most important parts of the public, and the capacity to attract talent to the company and retain it depends greatly on the success of the business.

In this context, the businesses’ social commitment and its policy towards sustainability (of the business itself and the planet) becomes fundamental in every relationship it establishes with its public, amongst them, the staff.

Why do we say then that the company’s social responsibility is of prime importance in its employer branding strategy? We will tell you now:

low1

1. In a globalised world, the flow of information is constant. We in live in a society that is extremely connected in which information spreads at an extremely fast rate and which news arrives instantly to a very large audience. In this situation, it is society itself, more informed than ever before, who demands that companies have a bigger commitment and who prefer, when searching for work, those businesses which show a greater social awareness and responsibility.

2. In a globalised world, the personal image is more important than ever. We are increasingly more aware of the importance of our own professional image and it is this awareness, which makes us become more demanding of the companies we work in. We know that our image is closely linked with our job and the company that we work for.

3. In a globalised world, companies compete with other companies from around the world. Location is not an obstacle for a talented employer who is willing to work in any business in the world and from any part of the world. Competition is high and companies have to be on top of their game if they want to attract talent.

4. In a globalised world, we are more and more aware of social problems. The aforementioned constant flow of information makes us more aware of the problems we have to face as a society, and therefore, makes us more responsible for finding the solution. We want to be part of the solution, and above all, we do not want to be a part of the problem.

Promofarma starts new project!

capaces 4 - copia

Once again, Promofarma users, one of the e-commerce with cause who work with us, have showed their solidarity. Through their collaboration with the campaign “One plus one, it is much more” promoted by Unicef, more than 7.000 kids will have access to clean water during one month. You can remember this project HERE.

The well-known Theodora Foundation is the next entity with which now the community of Promofarma can begin to collaborate. As you know, through the visits of Giggle Doctors, Theodora Foundation humanizes the stay in the hospital and helps to alleviate the suffering of all hospitalized children. Nonetheless, on this occasion, the euros collected will go to the “Able to Smile” project, an initiative that we haven’t talked about yet and which seeks to promote the autonomy and development of children with intellectual diversity through sensory stimulation.

A child with functional diversity responds very differently to stimuli; for example, some unexpected things can make them laugh, like a cry or a sneeze. Through the provocation of this laugh,Giggle Doctors acts by favouring their sensory and physical response, motivating the oxygenation of the cellular tissues and improving the immune system response.

Thanks to their collaboration, Giggle Doctors will be able to visit 35 children with intellectual disability, thus enhancing their sensorial and physical development.

Nicequest joins “Nobody left outside” campaign

capcelera_acnur

With the beginning of the new year, Nicequest starts a new solidarity campaign so that their users have the opportunity to continue collaborating in cooperation projects through their participation in different kinds of surveys.

Throughout 2017, the company will respond to many of the social causes and humanitarian emergencies that require attention and are linked to the United Nations sustainable development goals, such as guarantee access to safe drinking water, eradicate poverty or the prevention of the environment.

Their first challenge is related to providing assistance to more than 65 million people who are out of their homes, 50% of them are children.

Did you know that every second, 24 people become displaced?

It is a record data of human displacement. In a few years, the number of refugees has increased dramatically due to the crisis in Syria and the conflicts in South Sudan, Central African Republic, Burundi and Central America.

In front of this situation, Nicequest has joined to the worldwide campaign “Nobody left outside”, leaded by UNHCR. The project seeks to shelter 2 million people who have been forced to flee their homes and who do not have a shelter.

Through the donations from Nicequest, 13 emergency shelters for homeless refugee families will be distributed in UNHCR camps, giving access to a home to 100 people.

Today we introduce you Jordi and Joana, our two ambassadors in Africa

“It is like a mathematic proportion: the less people in one country has, more friendly and generous is people who live there”.

It was late last summer when we met Jordi and Joana, two young Catalans who had decided to embark on a new adventure and travel around the African continent.

Jordi and Joana, our two ambassadors in Africa

A friend of them had talked about our ambassador program – our international network of collaborators who help us identify and audit many of the social projects we are involved with – and that’s how we met.

Based on the route they had in mind, we planned their visit to some of the cooperation projects that we are currently helping to financein Africa.

What motivated them to embark on this adventure? What challenges are they encountering? What is their journey like? If you want to know a little more of them, keep reading!

Jordi and Joana, 6 months in Africa and 6 more in Central Asia. What has led you to venture into this new project?

For some time ago, we always wanted to do a long trip and the idea that motivated us most was to know part of the African continent. We had the feeling that we could find very authentic people there, very different ways of living and a spectacular nature. In addition, it was a very big challenge for us because of the way of traveling, totally different from how we had been doing so far. For now, all our expectations have been fulfilled!

When and how did you take this decision?

We had been waiting for the right conditions for 4 years. In 2010 we made a similar trip in Asia and then, back here, it was quite difficult to find a job and to re-establish our lives. So, when we found the way to go without losing our current job, we made the final decision.

What have you done so far?

So far, we have met the people in Madagascar, we have been relaxing for a few days in the Seychelles, we have explored the most isolated corners of Kenya, the nature of Uganda has surprised us and we have enjoyed the green of Rwanda. To all this, one of the most intense moments that we have lived have been the visits to Tuum (Kenya) and Patongo (Uganda) as ambassadors of Worldcoo.

What has surprised you the most?

We have been surprised about many things, and most of them are related to the people.  For example, seeing the isolation and simplicity with which many people live in these countries, it takes more than half an hour to get closer to children who had never seen European people. And one thing that we have already seen but it does not stop surprising us is to see that the less has the population of a country, the more friendly and generous are the people that live there. It looks like a mathematical proportion.

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

Without any doubt, visiting the social project in Tuum and then continue to Lake Turkana, Kenya. It is one of the most inhospitable and isolated areas where we have ever been. Most of these villages do not have any kind of transportation that connects them to each other and we had been waiting 5 hours for a vehicle to pass through the dirt road. Even so, the reward was greater than the difficulty.

As you know, our network of ambassadors helps us identify social projects and visit them in order to guarantee total transparency in everything. In the coming days, we will share with you their experience in the village of Tuum (Kenya) and Patongo (Uganda), where we are currently collaborating to improve the living conditions of children and adolescents.
