Veterinary assistance for animals of homeless people

altarriba_capcelera

Did you know that it is estimated that between 5-10% of homeless people have a pet that provides them with deep emotional support?

Animals do not judge, they do not discriminate, they provide a sense of self-esteem and they offer unconditional loyalty. In fact, according to various studies carried out on homeless people, animals foster a sense of responsibility and they reward with affection the fulfilment of this responsibility. In addition, by acting as silent witnesses, they can steer their owners away from risky behaviours, thus allowing the construction of a positive moral identity. Moreover, homeless people who share their lives with pets are less likely to be depressed and are less likely to exhibit potentially harmful behaviours, such as drug use.

logo-fundacion-altarriba-292Homeless people cannot afford veterinary assistance for their pets so, in this context, Fundación Altarriba wants to provide solutions to this problem and pay for veterinary expenses of these animals.

As you know, the community of Mascoteros has been collaborating with us in the financing of different social projects related to animal cause. From its beginning they have collaborated with Fundación Daina and Amigos del Perro to facilitate a home for abandoned dogs.

They have the opportunity now to collaborate with Fundación Altarriba to facilitate homeless people with pets have access to veterinary services.

With their help, 100 pets of homeless people will have access to veterinary assistance.

In particular, the population of Turkana, a region located in northern Kenya, has levels of malnutrition of the 30% and the forecast is that the situation will worsen due to the lack of rainfall. A daily food for children this Christmas

capcelera_nicquest

Did you know that 47% of families could not afford to feed their children enough meals per day?

STACKEDCoinciding with the GivingTuesday, a day dedicated to donate, help and share, Nicequest users initiate a new purpose, which is to get 1,200 children to receive a meal a day at one of the day centers of SOS Children’s Villages.

It is an important challenge if we consider that, at least, 220 million children are frighteningly alone – shut out from a caring family environment and sometimes even rejected by their communities and deprived of basic needs like food, clothing, shelter, education, health care, protection and love.

sos_villageFrom many years ago, SOS Children’s Villages works to guarantee one of the fundamental rights in the life of a child: food. Now all the users of Nicequest will have the chance to do the same.

In addition, Nicequest as a company will double all donations made during Tuesday, November 28 (#GivingTuesday).

TicketMaster joins Worldcoo community!

WELCOME!

logo_worldcoo_ticketWe are super proud to see that every time there are more companies who offer their users the possibility to collaborate with social projects around the world. In this occasion, it does it one of the biggest: TicketMaster, the world’s leading ticket sales company and first in the sector in Spain.

This means that from now on, when we buy a ticket for going to the theatre, to a concert or to a soccer stadium, for example, we will have the option to add one euro for a concret social cause, like poverty eradication, scientific research or social inclusion.

Each month, TicketMaster will collaborate with a specific NGO, such as “Theodora Foundation, “Unicef” or “Oxfam Intrmon”.

Its first challenge: facilitate the access to drinking water.

The conflict in Lake Chad, caused by the expansión of the Boko Harem group and the military response, implies immense and unknown suffering for millions of people in one of the poorest regions of the world.

In total, more than 11 million people need urgent help. Of these, 7 are at risk of hunger, 450,000 are children.

Insecurity prevents people from accessing basic social services and has destroyed infrastructure. That’s why the work of organizations like Oxfam Intermón is increasingly important. The entity works in the area to deal with this situation, ensuring access to food and drinking water for the displaced population in the area’s basin: Chad, Niger and Nigeria.

On this occasion, Ticketmaster customers will have the opportunity to collaborate with them to rehabilitate and build wells that ensure the distribution of drinking water to people who have fled their homes and communities.

oxfam-acceso-agua-289

In December they will collaborate with “Theodora Foundation” and throughout 2018, with many other NGO such as “Vicente Ferrer Foundation“, “Uno Entre Cien Mil” or “Unicef“, among others.

HERE you can see the actual fundraising status for each project.

One week for GivingTuesday!

Next Tuesday,  we will celebrate GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.

CapturaCelebrated on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

Its main mission is to dedicate a day around the world, this year on November 28, to celebrate the action of giving, be it food, money, time (volunteering), second-hand objects, etc. It is born as a counterpart to the already famous #BlackFriday or #CyberMonday; days in which, as you know, the massive purchase of gifts is promoted.

Although all the “Companies With a Cause” that collaborate with Worldcoo encourage this action day after day, we don’t want to miss the  opportunity to claim, especially that day, the need to share and collaborate with social causes.

Promofarma, MeQuedoUno, Sprinter or Planeta Huerto are some of the companies that have joined the movement with different special actions for that day.

collage_empreses

Last year, during this day in Spain we raised more than € 500,000 for 321 projects; for this 2017, the goal is to reach € 700,000.

A home for abandoned dogs

worldcoo-amigosperro-acogida

nuevologomascoterosOur friends from Mascoteros, the online shop for pets and animals, have proved being one of the most social committed. Few days ago, we announced that they had completed their first challenge, in which they have helped Daina Foundation to fight against the abandonment of elderly dogs.  Crispín, Conan or Atila were some of the dogs that they helped with all their contributions. If you want, you can remember the project HERE.

In this second occasions, they will collaborate with Amigos del Perro Foundation, an entity that develops different activities, from the collection of abandoned animals, until the reintegration of the same ones in new families through the adoption.

logo_whiteSometimes, when abandoned dogs are collected, they need a more specific environment than a cage, either because they are ill, are older, are a puppy, or need surgery after which they require monitoring and medication control. There are also animals that need socialization and education. In all these cases, a foster house is the solution.

Fosters houses are also very important in cases where the dog is already booked but it will take some time until it is collected. During this time, the dog is educated and socialized so that when he reaches his new family, the adaptation is easy and fast.

The new challenge of Mascoteros will be now ensure the maintenance and veterinary care in the Foster Home to abandoned dogs and promote their adoption.
