Infectious diseases, lack of food, lack of medicines and medical personnel make the health situation in Ethiopia one of the scarcest in the world.
Ethiopia is one of the countries in the world with fewer neurosurgeons and worse neurosurgery facilities. Unfortunately, head injuries are becoming very common causes of disability and death in the country due to traffic accidents and violence.
In front of this scenario, the Dr. Clavel Foundation works together with the Adama Hospital to in order to improve the health, safety and quality of life of the patients of the Oromia region. They move every two or three months with a team consisting of 1 neurosurgeon, 1 anesthetist and 1 operating room nurse for 10 days to Ethiopia. The purpose of these expeditions is to assist patients with spinal and brain diseases, to train local doctors and nurses to disseminate the specialty of neurosurgery and that these can assist patients when the Dr. Clavel Foundation is not in the field.
During the visits at the Adama Hospital, neurosurgeons perform clinical sessions for the training of medical students and recent graduates in the specialty of Neurosurgery. Classes of two hours are established and attended by about 40 students.
Now, the customers of Uvinum can collaborate with the entity with the main objective of training neurosurgeons for the consolidation of the Neurosurgery Unit at the Adama Hospital (Ethiopia) to improve the health, safety and quality of life of the patients of the Oromia region.
