In Spain, 4.1 million people (8% of the population) are in a situation of severe social exclusion.
The first consequence of poverty is hunger and malnutrition, which in addition to being fundamental causes of suffering, have direct consequences on health and development. As a result of the crisis caused by the pandemic, COVID-19 has increased the state of need of the most disadvantaged, and it is estimated that the increase in demand for food aid is between 30 and 40% over previous data.
In 2019, the Food Banks that constitute FESBAL served 1,050,000 beneficiaries, of which, about 50,000 are infants. Figures have been modified upwards as a result of COVID-19, for this reason the project focuses on covering the feeding of babies aged between 6 and 12 months. And it has been considered to be based on follow-on milk (supplemented or not with cereals), and vegetables / chicken / beef jars / jars, and fruit.
These foods will be distributed to almost 100 families with children from 6 to 12 months old through the 54 Food Banks distributed by all the provinces of the country that constitute the Spanish Federation of Food Banks FESBAL.
- Acquisition of baby food (milk -complemented or not with cereals-, and jars / jars of vegetables and chicken / beef, and fruit).
- Distribution among vulnerable families with minor children through the charities collaborating with food banks.
