Ensuring children's education in TuumTuum - Kenia
Tuum is a small village located at approximately 500 km north from Nairobi. It is an isolated place, arid and of difficult access. The minimum services of health and education are not available to the population. There is only one public primary school and the kindergarten has opened its doors to children under 6 who, before that, wandered around the fields carelessly.

Tuum’s kindergarten cares for children between 3 and 5 years of age who receive basic knowledge lessons. But, more importantly, they receive one daily meal that helps tackle the hunger and malnutrition of the youngest ones, one of the most serious problems that currently hit the region.
The kindergarten has allowed keeping track of the youngest children’s health as well as making an impact to the behaviour and hygiene habits of the kids’ parents, thus preventing many illnesses.
The kindergarten also has an impact on the community, since women working at Tuum’s tailor shop manufacture the uniforms of the pupils. It also serves as a space to hold meetings with teachers, heads of family and the community in general.
- Provide one balanced meal made with local products
- Teach basic hygiene routines to the children in order to prevent diseases
- Educate children with basic concepts of Swahili and maths
Wer wird begünstigt?
The beneficiaries of the project are 120 children (from 3 to 5 years old) that are currently attending the kindergarten, as well as the educational community working there. In sum, it will indirectly benefit the living conditions of Tuum’s population as a whole.
Prevent boys and girls under 6 from spending the first years of their lives on the street in precarious conditions and suffering malnutrition.
