Many families from disadvantaged communities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana live in precarious houses built by themselves. These cabins do not meet the minimum conditions of habitability or hygiene. In many occasions they have to change the roof every year, because the monsoon rains produce leaks and destroy it. They also do not have latrines or a space for personal hygiene, which forces them to do their physiological needs outdoors with very negative consequences on health and safety.

Since 1996, the Vicente Ferrer Foundation (FVF) has been working in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to guarantee living conditions, functionality, structural security and health for the most disadvantaged, promoting the right to housing, clean water and sanitation, such as also the construction of educational and community spaces.

The houses are built with local materials and in collaboration with the community and represent a turning point in their lives: they are, for the first time, an effective shelter against rains and intense heat, while guaranteeing protection against dangerous animal bites as snakes and scorpions. In addition, with the aim of empowering women, the new homes are deeded in their name, in this way they obtain property and a good for the future of their daughters and sons.

  • Preparatory work such as approval of plans and site cleaning.
  • Construction of the base structure and the roof.
  • Installations for the interior of the houses and septic tank excavation.
