Children in economically vulnerable contexts have a greater chance of suffering from educational poverty and drop out of school. Children who drop out will be poor adults, and this means that the cycle of poverty will not be broken and will become a structural problem.
In this sense, Save the Children works in Catalonia to break the transmission of poverty from parents to children, to guarantee the development rights of children and to guarantee a future for all the children we assist. It offers comprehensive educational support to students aged 6 to 18 at risk of social exclusion, with an emphasis on children in a situation of severe poverty, in order to improve academic performance and reduce the level of vulnerability of these children.
Summer activities are usually one of the first things that many of the vulnerable families have to give up. In order to favor the social inclusion of these children so that they can not feel discriminated against because they can not do the same as other children during this period, they are given access to summer camps and activities, safe spaces dedicated to leisure and free time. with playful, cultural activities, excursions to the pool and where they will be provided with at least one full meal a day. In addition, summer camps have a very positive impact on reducing the effects of low self-esteem and stigmatization generated by the poverty situation in which they are immersed.
- Remedial education: support in educational through the development of learning and counseling techniques for at least one hour a day.
- Leisure and free time: promotion of relationships between equals, rules of coexistence and respect towards others and towards the environment, and in this way to spread habits of healthy life and also of hygiene.
