Access to water in MozambiqueMozambique
In Mozambique there is a serious problem of water scarcity. It only rains 2-3 months a year and the only alternative source of water is the rivers, but they do not have access to water pumping systems. Practicing agriculture filling water buckets in the river is unsustainable and dangerous.

The Bike-Pumps are ecological and low-cost solutions that allow families with few resources to have continuous water thanks to a water pumping system that is activated with pedaling. Thus, with the strength of their own legs, they can access the water whenever they want.
From Azada Verde they are installing Water Bike-Pumps to different families in the Chibabava district (Sofala, Mozambique), so that they can irrigate their fields and have food throughout the year. Situation that unfortunately is not usual in the country, due to the food insecurity that many rural areas of Mozambique suffer.
The objective is to install Water Bike-Pumps to families without resources that have a plot near the river. A Bike-Pump guarantees that a family can have access to water to plant vegetables. Their lands will have access to constant water, so that during the dry season families can produce vegetables that ensure their food, diversify their diet, improve their health, increase their production and increase their income.
The benefits of the Bike-Pumps are multiple:
- Facilitate access to water
- Strengthen local economies
- They produce zero CO2 emissions to the atmosphere
- They use 100% renewable energy
- They allow access to a varied diet
- More than 50% of the materials from the Bike-Pumps is recycled
A Bike-Pump for Mozambique has a cost of € 250, which means that a family of 6 members has guaranteed access to water to grow vegetables.
- Install Bike-Pumps (bicycles to pump) that guarantee access to water with the strength of the legs. Thanks to the force of pedaling, water from the Buzi River can be pumped.
Who will benefit?
Families with few resources in Mozambique will have continuous water thanks to the strength of their own legs.
Provide access to water for families with few resources in Mozambique, which will allow them to irrigate their fields and have food throughout the year.
