Collaborate to strengthen the protection of children and young people against the Coronavirus

One in ten children in the world grows up without parental care or is at risk of losing it. In Spain, there are 300,000 children who suffer from this situation, 1 in 25, something that puts their emotional, physical and mental development at serious risk, and that violates their fundamental rights.

In front of the health crisis caused by the advance of the Covid-19 virus, Aldeas Infantiles SOS is turning to guarantee the physical and emotional well-being of the 6,072 children and young people it accompanies in Spain and their families.

To do this, it has implemented urgent measures to face the health crisis, designing immediate action plans and establishing the contingency protocols necessary to face any eventuality. All of this, following the recommendations of the health authorities. In addition, it also has different prevention programs in Spain, in which it offers support to families at risk so that they can improve their living conditions and take better care of their children.

For families at risk, Aldeas' professionals are a fundamental part of their day-to-day life and a key piece for them to succeed. On a daily basis, the educators follow up on a family by family basis, to know their situation, what needs they have, provide resources to prevent the stress of confinement from causing situations of abuse or even abandonment; and in some cases, in which the economic situation has been greatly affected, they are also supported financially so that they can cope with this situation.

The resources needed to continue caring for and supporting these children, youth and their families are:

  • Support and monitoring of homework.
  • Design of activity proposals for children and families during confinement.
  • Strengthening of educational guidelines.
  • Daily monitoring of family dynamics to identify situations of stress and violence.
  • Psychological attention.
  • Support to guarantee the coverage of basic hygiene and food needs.
  • Support and healthcare - medicines.

Who will benefit?

With your help, it will be possible to cover the basic needs of food, hygiene and health of 85 children in vulnerable situations for a month.

Project objectives

Support families with children in vulnerable situations who have been most seriously affected by the Covid-19 crisis.
