D'Genes will attend 350 children who do not have a diagnosis and who need continuous and comprehensive care in the search for that diagnosis.
A disease is considered rare when it affects a limited number of the total population (less than 1 per 2,000 people). Between 6 and 8% of the population is affected by these diseases.
As they are rare diseases and in many cases unknown, on average 5 years pass until patients receive a diagnosis, and in 1 in 5 cases 10 or even more years pass. This causes that the patients do not receive treatment or that the one that they receive is inadequate, being able to even aggravate the disease. Thus, having a correct diagnosis is vital for the evolution of the disease.
