Description
The earthquake that killed more than 480 people and injured more than 2,500 people in Ecuador is the worst disaster the country has faced in decades.
According to preliminary government reports, the earthquake damaged 119 schools, affecting 88,000 children. Some 805 buildings have been destroyed and 608 have been damaged.
The most critical think is health, water and sanitation conditions in the coastal areas, the worst hit areas.
Activities
Provide education, protection and water and sanitation supplies, including school kits and tents.
At this moment UNICEF delivered 20,000 water purification tablets and 4,500 tents.
Who will benefit?
Two thousands of children, men and women will receive drinking water during one year.
Project objectives
Protect children from disease and other risks common in such emergencies.
Provide psychosocial support to affected children and temporary learning opportunities.
