Coronavirus presents a huge challenge for our already overstretched network of food banks, which continue to deal with a record level of need for emergency food. We have already seen many food banks in our network running low on particular items needed for parcels, at the same time as they’re having to make big changes to the way they operate in order to continue providing food safely. We are working closely with food banks to support them in any way they need, as they face this time of such uncertainty and challenge. We are focused on rapidly mobilising support so people who cannot afford the essentials don’t face hunger in the coming months.

We’re focusing on two things right now.
First, we’re working to support our network of food banks to respond safely to an increasing number of people needing their help because there isn’t enough money coming in to cover the cost of essentials.
But it’s not right that anyone should need a food bank’s help. That’s why we’re also working to campaign for changes that will get money into the pockets of people who need it. It’s not inevitable that we see soaring food bank use in our country – we can put support in place that ensures we all have enough money to put food on the table. This can change.
