Blindness is one of the most severe – but preventable and treatable – issues faced by the poorest people in India.

During childhood ocular related problems can lead to educational problems. In fact, one out of three cases of school failure is due to vision problems. Because of this reason Mumbai Smiles develops a health program in their preschool centers. Students receive periodic medical check-ups in which any kind of ophthalmological disease or illness –which needs to be identified and treated- is sought. Those simpler cases are addressed directly by our doctors, but those requiring more specialized treatment are referred to medical centers.

  • Conduct a medical check-up: the beneficiaries will be examined for perfectly treatable problems.
  • Provide glasses or necessary orthopedic material, as well as medical advice.
  • Refer the most important cases to the reference medical centers.

Who will benefit?

80 children from Sangharsh Nagar, Powai, Kanjurmarg, Vikroli and Marol slums will receive medical check-ups to prevent and treat curable diseases.

Project objectives

Reduce the presence of easily diagnosable and treatable diseases and conditions.
