The “Associació de Familiars i Amics de Nens Oncològics de Catalunya” (Association of Families and Friends of Children Treated for Cancer of Catalonia), was founded in 1987 after the profound experience shared by a group of parents who found ourselves in the situation of having of a child in the hospital, diagnosed with cancer.
Leisure is considered a means to work the values of coexistence and respect towards others, towards oneself and towards those around them. For this reason, the colonies should allow participants to, from a different environment than usual, grow as people, learn to interact positively with other children and adults, and learn new ways to occupy leisure time.
After long periods of entry, the colonies represent the first space between equals, the first period of time extending without the father or mother, a leisure space where there are other children who have had the same disease. For the siblings, it is also a very differentiated space from the hospital, a space where it is not, nor is it treated differently from, his / her brother / daughter with cancer, a space with other children who have suffered the disease and a space with others Brothers like them to meet and learn.
Many of these reasons make the colonies such a positive space for these children with new emotions, new challenges, new roles and new friendships.
Workshops and activities where the values of coexistence and respect towards others, towards oneself and towards those around it are worked. The activities are framed in an axis of animation based on stories, imagination, space, or a journey through time, or in the middle ages, etc. This axis of animation acts as a guiding thread, thus becoming a motivating element.
Dynamics where participants can grow as people, learn to interact positively with other children, and learn new ways to occupy leisure time.
