Description

Alzheimer Catalunya has been working face to face with dementia since 1988. Its aim is for the diagnosed person to continue to decide for herself as long as she can and, later on, for her environment to keep her perspective in mind.

From the Foundation, support is offered to people and their caregiver environment through the Person and Family area. The will is to make visible the needs verbalized by the people affected by dementia and its closest environment and to accompany them in the process of the disease.

To carry out the accompaniment, Alzheimer Catalunya offers, from the framework of the ACP (person centered attention), counseling and psychological attention to people living with dementia, and also to their relatives, thus trying to improve the living conditions of these people.

At the global level, a new case is diagnosed every 4 seconds. In Spain there are currently 800.000 people diagnosed (in Catalonia 86.000), although it is estimated that by 2050 will reach 1.5M diagnoses.

Alzheimer's disease is a chronic disease, and without a known, incapacitating cure, which appears mainly at the end of the productive life of people, but which can extend over time due to its slow progression. The main symptoms of dementia show a global and progressive deterioration of memory, language, thinking, behavior and personality / mood.
