Reforestation will mean an improvement of natural habitats in the region and an expansion of the several native species habitat, such the eel.

For several years, the Segura river and the Huerta area of Murcia suffer a very important habitat fragmentation due to lack of maintenance of the pools and margins, and the presence of a large number of obstacles in their beds.

To address this problem, the Asociación Columbares carries out the project "Reforestation of native species in Murcia", included in the Eel Project, rehabilitating natural areas, reintroducing native species and improving the habitat of endangered species like the eel.

The project will be developed in different areas of the Huerta area of Murcia: Major Barriers ditch, Arboleja ditch and Aljufía ditch.


  • Revegetation with native trees and plants
  • Removal of invasive plant species
  • Cleaning and removal of solid waste
  • Irrigation and maintenance of seedlings

Who will benefit?

With 6.000 €, you can reforest 640 trees and native plants that will replace invasive vegetation removal.

Project objectives

To rehabilitate the banks of the Segura river and the Huerta area of Murcia.

To reintroduce native plant species.

To improve and expand the eels shelter habitat.
