Barcelona - Spain

Every year 15 million premature children are born in the world, that is, children whose gestation ends before week 37. In Vall d'Hebron we want to offer premature infants the conditions so that they can survive and not suffer sequelae, by time they can enjoy the closeness of their family. There are warriors born without armor. Álvaro de Pfaff is one of them. He was born in the Vall d'Hebron Children's Hospital in 2016 with only 25 weeks of gestation and 650 g, the weight of two bottles. For 96 days he was in the Neonatology Service, fighting to survive. Now, he is a strong and healthy child. In his gaze is the strength of a child who was born extraordinary. And that is why, in Vall d'Hebron, with the campaign 'With you, at home', we want to raise funds so that the current Neonatology Service becomes the great reference center for newborns and make it possible for each day, more children like Álvaro can survive.

7.5% of the babies of the State are premature and their evolution every day is more satisfactory thanks to the quality of the care received. It has been shown that the incorporation of parents and other relatives to the treatment team improves the prognosis of children. For this reason, the new Vall d'Hebron Advanced Neonatology Center provides for the creation of rooms with all the necessary equipment so that parents, mothers and siblings can become familiar with the coexistence and needs of the newborn. In these spaces, the care and practice of skin-to-skin contact will be carried out, where families have an essential role for the improvement of prematurity and the reduction of possible sequelae.

The rooms will be open spaces for family members who will be supervised by a multidisciplinary medical team that will ensure that the development, both of the child and of the whole family, is correct and prepares them for arrival at home Be a success.

Help us create the new Vall d'Hebron Advanced Neonatology Center so that all newborns and families feel at home.

The Vall d'Hebron Advanced Neonatology Center wants to place the family in the center of newborn care, creating family spaces that facilitate and protect their privacy inside the hospital, where they feel comfortable and always have the advice of professionals .

Who will benefit?

The 900 newborns treated each year at Vall d'Hebron and their families can benefit from the new Advanced Neonatology Center.
