Community playing centres for children in BrazilBrazil
The early childhood is the most important phase of life for the development of a person.
The integral development of children from 0 to 6 years old – which includes physical, socio-emotional, cognitive, language, cultural and ethical-moral dimensions– has a powerful influence on people’s well-being, mental and physical health, learning, intellect, as well as in their social and economic participation throughout life. What happens to the child in early childhood is critical for his or her development path and life.
Despite neuroscientific evidence regarding the importance of playing in child development, according to IBOPE’s study (2012) “Perceptions and practices of the Brazilian Society about early life”, only 19% of respondents recognise playing as an important activity for the development of children. Moments of family leisure enable unparalleled opportunities for appropriate stimulation, which will foster learning and socialization, strengthening family ties.
Plan Brazil proposes an integral action in order to promote children’s skills in this crucial stage of human development, strengthen mothers, fathers and caregivers in family skills, and also supporting families for better use of their time together.
- Construct community playing centers in community spaces for leisure purposes in the community areas and inside public schools.
- Build mobile toy playing areas in community areas.
- Workshops sessions and reading workshop sessions with boys and girls up to 6 years old.
- Capacity building sessions for day-care and health professionals working with children up to 6 years old.
Plan International Brazil will be able to construct a community playing area for children from 0 to 6 years old, so that they can have a happy and healthy early childhood.
Improve the integral development of children from 0 to 6 years of age by providing them with the necessary playing resources to have a happy and healthy early childhood.
