Description

We are closer than ever to ending polio. Never before in the history of polio have there been so few children in so few countries with the crippling virus, but obstacles remain on the road to zero cases. Polio eradication still remains a challenge for mankind as Pakistan, Nigeria, and Afghanistan (the remaining polio endemic nations) continue to have cases of endemic wild polio.

In Nigeria, UNICEF collaborates with its partners and national ministries of health to raise community and household awareness of polio, to mobilize the use of available immunization services, and to respond quickly and effectively to communities’ immunization concerns and needs.

The project is part of the CIERRA UNICEF campaign in order to avoid that any single child dies from diseases that can be avoided with a vaccine. The day that UNICEF gets will close, but much remains to be done, polio continues to be a serious threat to the lives of many children.
