Levels of food insecurity and malnutrition in the Lake Chad basin have become alarming. The conflict that began more than seven years ago between Boko Haram and the military attempting to combat it has destroyed entire villages, roads, water sources, health centers and schools. Families have been unable to farm or buy food because of the soaring prices.
6.3 million people are running out of food and nearly half a million children under the age of five are malnourished.
People urgently need food, water, medicine, shelter and protection.

Oxfam is providing life-saving support in Nigeria, Niger and Chad to people who have fled their home and to the communities in which they are taking shelter. They are providing people with desperately needed food as well as clean drinking water and sanitation to prevent the spread of disease. Oxfam has supported over 250,000 people since we began responding to the crisis in Nigeria in May 2014. And they are now working in three out of the four affected states. Oxfam plans to reach over 1.5 million people.
