Descrizione

More than 4.6 million refugees and displaced South Sudanese depend on humanitarian aid to survive, and are facing an unprecedented famine. Since the conflict began in 2013, waves of violence, massacres of the civilian population and wars have been constant in South Sudan.

The emergency situation has led the country to become the largest crisis of forced displacement in Africa, and the third worldwide. Prolonged instability, epidemics and diseases, the escalation of violence and the widespread destruction of crops, coupled with an important drought, have triggered unprecedented levels of food insecurity.

More than 63% of South Sudanese refugees are children who have survived great violence and danger, in addition to severe food shortages and chronic malnutrition.

UNHCR has made important efforts to provide humanitarian aid to the populations in need to prevent and alleviate the famine, by launching a series of specific projects within the framework of a nutrition program.

Attività

  • Detection of cases of malnutrition in South Sudan.
  • Delivery of supplementary food to families suffering from malnutrition, with special emphasis on children and pregnant women.
